Floor plan app for iPhone: walk a room, get a plan

The Floor Plan tool draws a room as you walk it. Aim where two walls meet the floor, tap +, then walk to the next corner and tap again. Return to the first corner to close the room. The app draws the plan on squared paper with every wall length, the area and the perimeter, and you can export it as a PDF.

How to use it

1. Choose Floor Plan and aim where two walls meet the floor. Tap +.
2. Walk to the next corner and tap +. Keep going around the room.
3. Return to the first corner to close the room.
4. Open the saved plan to see wall lengths, area and perimeter, and export it as a PDF.

Good for

• A quick plan to take to a flooring, carpet or furniture shop
• Working out a room’s area when it isn’t a simple rectangle
• Keeping a record of room sizes before a move

What it can’t do

• The plan is built from the corners you tap, so each wall is an estimate.
• It draws the floor outline only. It doesn’t detect doors, windows or furniture.
• The exported PDF says it plainly: the figures are approximate, so check them yourself before using them for building work or expensive purchases.
