Measure Pro
Measure area with your iPhone camera
The Area tool works out the area of a flat surface from its corners. Aim at the first corner, tap +, and tap each corner in turn. When you come back to the first corner the shape closes, and the app shows its area and perimeter. Point it at a rectangle, such as a picture frame, and the edges can snap in on their own.
How to use it
- Choose Area in the tool strip and aim at the first corner of the surface.
- Tap + at each corner in turn. The app counts how many corners you have placed.
- Return to the first corner and tap it to close the shape.
- Read the area and perimeter, then save the measurement if you want to keep it.
Good for
- The area of a wall before buying paint or wallpaper
- Tabletops, rugs, worktops and other flat surfaces
- Quick estimates for a square footage calculation
What it can’t do
- The result is an estimate built from the corners you place, so take care to tap the real corners.
- Automatic rectangle snapping only offers itself before you start placing corners by hand.
- For a whole room’s floor, the Floor Plan tool is made for walking around a room.
Area: questions
Can it measure shapes that aren’t rectangles?
Yes. Tap as many corners as the shape has, then close it on the first corner. You need at least three corners.
Is Area free?
Area is one of the eight tools that come with Measure Pro. The Measure tool is free.
Which units does it use?
Metric or imperial. The app follows your phone’s region by default, and you can change it in Settings.
